Direct Contribution to GDP
Travel and tourism are dynamic sectors in the country. Its contribution to the Indian economy over the years is staggering. Most of the tourism revenue in India comes from the country’s travelers. According to WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council), India ranks 10th out of 185 countries in terms of travel and tourism contribution to GDP in 2019. India’s travel and tourism sector contributed 6.8% to the country’s GDP in 2019. The service cost was 194 billion US dollars. In 2020, the report said, only 4.6% contributed to the GDP for denial of permission to airlines to operate commercial flights due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, valued at 121.9 billion US dollars.
Indirect Contribution
Travel and tourism as a revenue instrument have been directly and indirectly cooperating with other sectors of the country in various ways. On the one hand, it is creating huge jobs in every calendar year, and on the other hand, it is encouraging the sectors associated with this tourism such as transportation (road, railways, shipping, aviation), hotels, resorts, restaurants sector. At present, the number of foreign tourists in India has increased a lot. Which has lengthened the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The Government of India has extended a helping hand through the implementation of the new visa policy and the massive advertisement of tourism products.
