Ladakh is the seventh most populous region in the Union Territory of India, and the thirty-fifth most populous region in the country. This is a union territory. This region is governed by India. The states of Jammu and Kashmir are divided into two Union Territories J & K, and Ladakh. The newly formed Union Territories were formed under a Restructuring Act passed by the Parliament of India on 5-6 August 2020.

STATE OVERVIEW
The Union territory has a geographical area of 166,698 sq km which is the 1st largest position in terms of the UT’s geographical area in India & divided into a total of 02 districts (Leh and Kargil). It is bounded by Tibet Autonomous Region to the east, by the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh to the south, Indian administered union territory Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan to the western part, Also, the southwest corner of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region across the Karakoram Pass in the far north. The total population of the state is approx 2.97 lakhs in 2020.

Generally, Ladakh has a cold and dry climate. The average temperature here is between (-)5 degrees to 10 degrees.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
Tourists cannot come here all year round due to its geographical location and unfavorable weather. Roads are closed for most of the year due to heavy snowfall. The best time to visit Ladakh is from April to June and September
HOW TO VISIT
Leh, the capital of Ladakh, is mainly connected by road to Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) and Manali (Himachal Pradesh). Other parts of the country are connected to Leh by domestic airlines.
By Air
There is only one domestic airport in Ladakh called Late Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. Which is connected with almost all the states of the country
By Rail
Jammu is the nearest railway station to Ladakh. From Jammu, Ladakh can be reached by road (about 680 km) by NH 44 and NH 1. Ladakh can also be reached by air from Jammu in a much shorter time.
By Road
There are two routes to reach Ladakh by road. One is the Srinagar-Leh Highway known as NH 1, and the other is the Leh-Manali Highway. This journey is very exciting and there is beautiful scenery all around.
